We spent last in Memorial Park in Loma Mar, CA at the First Annual Las Madres ’07 Camping Trip! There were 20 adults and 11 kids in 5 campsites and everyone had a great time. I don’t think Clara’s ever been that dirty in her life and seemed to enjoy every second of it (including her very first s’more.)

Super fun weekend with 2 birthday parties, one grown-up BBQ party and a visit to Gilroy Gardens where we ran into friends!  Here are a few photos from all the fun:

And of course, mid-week we were so happy to have Carrie and Joel stop overnight on their way between visiting friends in SF and going to a wedding in Monterey!

I took Friday off of work and made this a wonderful 4 day weekend.  Mom was out visiting for a few days so we played on Friday and took Clara to get her haircut.  She had to go home Saturday morning and S had to work, so Clara and I had a nice day just the two of us on Saturday (Little Gym, Storytime, a couple of trips to the hardware store, a nap, some painting, and a visit to Booksmart and a little of Mushroom Mardigras.)  On Sunday, we cleaned up the house (as best we could) and made cupcakes in anticipation of an exciting visit from Heather, Jared and Ilsa.   It was Ilsa’s second birthday and our first chance to meet her.  The girls got along quite well and it was wonderful to see everyone.  We hung out, went through Mushroom Mardigras, checked out the house we’re attempting to buy, played at Nordstrom Park, had dinner at VietAsia (our favorite local restaurant and one that tolerates toddlers quite well), and hung out some more until bedtime reading stories and playing with musical instruments and things.  Monday we all went for a small hike at Uvas Canyon where we saw a million ladybugs (so many that it was a bit creepy to see them all swarming around), had lunch, a nap (well, some people napped anyway) and played some more.  A really nice, relaxing fun holiday weekend!

Carrie G. will be the Democratic analyst for C-SPAN during their evening election results coverage tomorrow night from 7:30 to 11:30pm EST.  Cool!  Now I know which channel to watch the returns on.

Usually with friends of mine like Carrie G, when we talk about running its a political campaign in the works, but like Brian she ventures into the other kind of running as well and apparently is participating in her first ever marathon today in Des Moines.  Best of luck!

Here are a few photos from the weekend. It was so wonderful to have Katy, Maria and Meag all come visit! Katy and Meag arrived in time for lunch on Friday and we hung out in Los Gatos (discovering an amazing new candy store where we stocked up on supplies for the weekend and a fun trip to Baby Gap for some adorable little things). We went out to dinner at our favorite Thai place, and Maria came in later Friday night. Saturday was cold and rainy, so we mostly stayed in (after a quick trip to the farmer’s market for golden raspberries and to the library for click-flick DVDs), read, watched movies, and hung out. We took the group to Super T for burritos for a late lunch and to Target for some more baby shopping. Sunday was bright and sunny so we decided to go see some redwood trees (Katy’s request when planning this visit). So we headed towards the Roaring Camp Railways (getting a flat tire on the way, but luckily my wonderful husband was driving and calmly swapped it out for the spare). We had lunch at Roaring Camp and then took the one-hour train ride through the redwoods. We stopped in Santa Cruz on the way back to get a new tire and met up with Margaret and Alan for a very satisfying trip to Bookshop Santa Cruz and super yummy hot chocolates at the Chocolate cafe next door. On the way home we stopped at Garlic World (for Meag) and the Jelly Belly outlet store at the Gilroy Outlets. Then we headed to Los Altos for a fantastic dinner at Zitune (thank you to Dad and Jane for the gift certificate to the restaurant!), meeting up with Maria’s friend Christine and Katy&Meag’s cousin Chip/Jerry. Maria headed off to SF for a few days with Christine and Katy and Meag flew back Monday afternoon.

It was a fantastic weekend and I hated to see them all go!!!!

Had a chance to hang out last night with Mike, Susan and their three wonderful kids, here for the month from Indiana visiting the grandparents. The kids have grown a whole lot since I saw them last and it was amazing to catch up with everyone. We had a great dinner at an Afghani restaurant in Palo Alto, Cafe Sophia, and then really good ice cream at Rick’s Ice Cream.

Constance sent along the link to this great clip reel of Amanda, an up-and-coming journalist! It was so great to see her when we were in NYC a few weeks ago and is amazing to see her on camera like this!

Mom pointed out that Darin has been named a regional finalist for the White House Fellow Program! (my Dad was a White House Fellow the year we all lived in DC in 1979-80, so I understand how fantastic this is). Way to go Darin!
